Volkswagen Vanagon

The Volkswagen Vanagon is the type2 model of the T3 generation, it is also known as Transporter in Europe. The car was made in 1980, and it was the last rear-engined vehicle produced by the company. Compared to its predecessor, the microbus, the Vanagon was larger and heavier. It also had square corners replacing the rounded edges from the older models.

The Vanagon was built with the option of making more modern successor to Microbus. But the vehicle was low-powered due to its curb weight. Different versions of Vanagon produced in S.A were having 5-cylinder Audi engine, to help the vehicle to perform better. The early versions of Vanagon were having Chrome-plated steel bumpers with plastic endcaps, which were later made larger and squarer.

Having the engine and transaxle at the back the vanagon got much place for disc brakes in the front and also drums in the rear. The vanagon was not available like microbus, with power-steering, air-conditioning, power door locks lighted vanity mirrors, and a light above a glove box. In the early models the air-conditioning in the Vanagon was not convinient, it was made like hanging, and that was the negative part of the car.

Later in 1986, the improved version of the car was launched with improved air-conditioning which was doing the better job with cooling. This later version also had "airliner" style plastic duct that runs the length if the vehicle in the center with adjustable outlets. The controls were given above the sun visors in front. The interior was more attractive with grey color. This version was one of the vehicles where automatic transmission was tougher than the manual transmission.

The Vanagon also had some extra features like brake master cylinder was inside the dashboard. The battery in gasoline-powered models was located under passenger side front seat in order to protect it from dust and other particles. The oil filling tube was given behind the flip-down licence plate door, and this needed some extra care while pulling it in full-service gas station. Apart form all this features this car was the highest selling minibus of the time. And also the owners are happy with their car.

And when it comes to taking care of the car, it is also important not to replace the parts of the car with any parts available in the market.
