Volkswagen Scirocco
The Volkswagen Scirocco is a compact sport car designed by the German automaker Volkswagen since 1974 to 1992. The Scirocco was a highly successful model and also helped to uplift the reputation of the company. The Caompany began to work on the car in early 70's and made the car with a cost saving method. The company used the A1 chassis that were shared by the Golf abd Jetta to underpin the Scirocco. Each part of the body was re-designed to give it a sporty look.
A heavily re-designed make II was out for sale in 1982. Though it remained on the platform of make I few changes were made in it. And a leather interior, power-windows and mirrors, air-conditioning, and a manual sunroof were the options with this second make. Again in 1986, a 16V model was released in the USA and Canada which has a full body skirt to make it look different from all other make II 8V models. The Scirocco sales were good till 1988 in USA and 1989 in Canada. But later again the sales decreased.
In June 2006, the company announced to make the new Scirocco at the Autoeuropa assembly plant in Palmela, Portugal. The production estimate is 100,000 cars per year, with the first Scirocco rolling off the line in 2008. This concept was shown in 2006 in Paris Auto show. The new make will have two options of gasoline engines.
