Pontiac Tempest
The Pontiac Tempest was first built by General Motors from 1961 until 1972 and was then once again resurrected from 1988 to 1991. From 1961 to 1963 it was classified as a compact car and the other model years, including the revival model, were all categorized as a mid-size car. The first two generations of Pontiac Tempest came in many body styles. There was the 4 door station wagon or sedan and also the 2 door convertible and 2 door coupe and all were built on the A body platform. The third generation from 1988 until 1991 only came as a 4 door sedan and was built on the L body platform.
The third generation of Pontiac Tempest was manufactured in the United States but was only sold in Canada. It was in reality a Chevy that was sold under the Pontiac brand name. There is one very rare trim of Pontiac Tempest that was built in December of 1962 and it was known as the Super Duty. It is considered extremely rare because only 11 cars were ever built.
