Pontiac Lemans
The Pontiac Lemans was first produced by the General Motors company from 1962 until 1981. Starting in 1988 and continuing until 1993 it was once again sold and produced by Daewoo Motors. The first Lemans from 1962 - 1981 were classified as mid sized cars and the secondly produced cars fro 1988 - 1993 were classified into the subcompact category.
The first Pontiac Lemans cars were actually just sporty trims of the Tempest that happened to turn into their own model years later. Until 1963 there was only a 2 door version available as either a couple or convertible and it was built on the Y-body platform. Starting with 1964 that changed and the Lemans was now built on an A-body platform and there was also a 4 door sedan and station wagon available.
Starting with the 1970 model the Pontiac Lemans was available with the larger GTO engines and in 1971 the Lemans finally became a separate car and was no longer connected to the Tempest. The year 1978 was a major changing point for the Pontiac Lemans because of its restyling. The most outstanding change was in the weight because the mid-sized cars of the day, also the Lemans, lost up to 800 pounds of weight.
