The Pontiac Fiero was a sports car that was produced by General Motors between 1984 and 1988. The name Fiero comes from the Italian language and translated it means proud. It was actually not supposed to be produced, because of the other 2 seater sports car that were already being manufactured by other divisions of General Motors, however, the oil crisis and the newly found attraction to fuel economic cars gave the Pontiac Fiero its chance and it became a fuel efficient, mid-size engine sports car. The smaller sized engines though were short lived, and already starting in 1985 the engines had increased in size and power. By the time production of this car had stopped, there had been around 370,000 cars built and they were all assembled in the Pontiac, Michigan plant.

The platform used for the Pontiac Fiero was the P body and there were two bodystyles built which were the 2 door notchback and the 2 door fastback. There was first the 2.5 L four cylinder engine and later the 2.8 L V6. Of the four transmissions available, there was only the one 3 speed automatic transmission. There was then the one 4 speed and two different 5 speed manual transmissions, one made by Isuzu and the other was a Getrag.
