Pontiac 1000
The Pontiac 1000 was produced between 1976 and 1987 by General Motors and assembled in the plants in Delaware and Georgia, both in the United States. It replaced the Pontiac Astre and was succeeded by different models, such as the Firefly, Lemans and Suburst. It was categorized into the subcompact class of cars.
The Pontiac 1000, also called by some the T1000 because it was built on the T-body platform, came in two body styles. There was the 3 door and 5 door hatchback version. There were a few engines to choose from including the 1.4 L and 1.6 L four cylinder gas engines and a 1.8 L diesel engine. There were 4 and 5 speed manual transmissions available and a 3 speed automatic transmission.Although the Pontiac 1000 was actually meant to be attractive to people who have to do a lot of commuting as an economical and small sized car, there were quite a few fans that had fun putting large, lightweight powerful V8 engines into the 1000 and then using them as drag racing or offroad dirt racing.
