Chevrolet Malibu is produced by General Motors and is marketed in North America (including United States, Canada, and Mexico) and Israel. Malibu is positioned by General Motors in direct competition with Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Ford Fusion range of automobiles
The first model was released to markets in 1964 and was called Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu. It was redesigned and repositioned in 1978 as Malibu eliminated the Chevelle part. It was a downsized version and only two trims levels, Malibu and Malibu Classic were offered. They used to come in three styles, station wagon, 4-door sedan and 2-door coupe. Currently, there are various trim levels on offer, including Malibu LS, Malibu LT, Malibu LTZ, Malibu SS, Malibu Maxx LT, Malibu Maxx LTZ, and Malibu Maxx SS.
Standard specification includes two sided galvanized steel body panels with day time running lamps and body coloured door handles. Malibu headlamps are halogen based, composite lamps that include crystalline like lenses and are equipped with automatic exterior lamp control system. This is accompanied with power windows and power mirrors, and back and front speed sensitive wipers.
Malibu has four-speed automatic, electronically controlled transmission system with overdrive and electronic range selector. The SS and Maxx SS trim levels have tap-up and tap-down sport shifting systems in place.
The interior of the Malibu range of automobiles is designed to provide comfort, calm and smooth travelling experience to the users. In addition to air bags, there is automatic climate control system for air conditioners in LTZ and SS trim levels. There is an optional driver convenience package in Malibu LT that includes remote vehicle starter system and power adjustable pedals.
