The Toyota Solara was first introduced to the market in 1999 and was designed by Toyota to be a sport version of the popular Camry and is classified as a mid-sized car.,There are two bodystyles, the 2 door convertible and 2 door coupe, which can be chosen from. Three trims are available for the current model and are known as SE, SE Sport and SLE, with the SLE version being the most expensive because of the lavish interior, climate control and seats that are power adjustable, just to mention a few extras. Although the Toyota Solara is considered to be a very roomy, reliable and comfortable sports car, it does lack when it comes to high-end technology. There are two engines available for the Toyota Solara, a four cylinder engine which is standard for the car and a more powerful six cylinder version. There used to be a manual and automatic transmission available for all engine types, however, the manual transmission was discontinued starting in 2003 for the V6 engine.
The convertible variation of the Toyota Solara was first introduced for the 2000 model. The convertible top is power controlled and can be raised or lowered in a 10 second time period. The top itself is stowed away after being lowered under a so-called tonneau covering which is color matched to the interior.
