Toyota Corona
The Toyota Corona was produced from 1957 up until 2002. It was known worldwide, but was called by different names, such as Carina, in other markets. The Corona is hard to categorize since different parts of the world see it according their standards. In the United States the Toyota Corona was considered to be a compact car until 1983 and then afterwards, from 1983 - 2000 it was classified as a mid-sized car. In Europe, though, the Toyota Corona only categorized in the large family car class. This model was a major export product for Toyota and even the name Corona is the Latin word for "crown". Its peak time in the United States was in the 1970's.
A total of eleven Toyota Corona generations had been built. A number of body styles and trims had been available during the years. The last, or eleventh generation, built between 1996 and 2002 was only available in Japan and was known as the Toyota Corona Premio and from this car a whole new series of cars came into being known as Premio.
Over the years many body styles and trims came into being. From the station wagon model, a whole new car series was launched and known as the Caldina. There were also the sedan, liftback, and coupe styles. The Toyota Corona was eventually replaced with larger cars such the Avensis or Camry.
