Toyota Celica was first released in Japanese markets in 1970 as a replacement to Toyota's 2000GT. The available trim levels then, were Celica ET, Celica LT, Celica ST, Celica GT and Celica GTV.

The major changes that were made included a better front bumper; face lifted tail lights, and many new colors for Celica's body.
