Ford Mustang:
The Ford Mustang was first introduced in the year 1964 as a 1965 model. It was a small muscle vehicle that was released by Ford as a response to the first muscle car by Pontiac in the early 1960s. There was a trend towards the higher performance vehicles and Ford produced the Mustang to meet this need. The vehicle became known as a pony car and used a compact passenger car chassis. There were soon other pony cars on the market as a new trend in muscle cars was generated.
The followers of the Ford Mustang in terms of producing a pony car were many big names in the industry and even the people that started the muscle car trend, Pontiac. The vehicles that followed the mustang came from companies such as Chevrolet, Mercury and AMC as well as a few others. Today the Ford Mustang is the only line of pony cars that is still in production today. There are only two others that survived long and those are the Camaro from Chevrolet and the Firebird that comes from Pontiac which we halted in 2002.
The Ford Mustang and similar pony cars are an excellent alternative to the muscle cars that we want and cannot afford. The Ford Mustangs were sports versions of regular Ford cars and they had more drivability and also some aftermarket upgrades that set them apart and made them into racing cars. Eventually the car grew in size with subsequent designs and by the 1970s was a vehicle that was now mid sized and based on the Ford Fairlane platform. This was now a new muscle car. Today the vehicle continues to go through many alterations and continues to please customers around the world.
