Dodge Omni
The Dodge Omni was manufactured between 1978 and 1990 in Illinois (1978 - 87) and Wisconsin (1988 - 90) in the United States by the Chrysler Corporation in North America, which is today known as DaimlerChrysler. It was categorized as a subcompact car and came in only one body style, as a 5 door hatchback. It is closely related to the Plymouth Horizon.
The Dodge Omni offered many new features that were unique for the time. It was even Motor Trend's "Car of the Year" in 1978 and did well with competing with the competition that was out on the market, especially the European rivals. The Dodge Omni was not only the first subcompact car built by the Chrysler Corporation, it was also the first model to be built on the, at that time, new L-Platform, and it was also the first front wheel driven car that Dodge had ever offered. Since front wheel drive was new to the American market, consumers were worried about it which did cause problems in the beginning for this model, especially since some media openly reported handling problems due to this feature. However, after seriously taken motor magazines had corrected these wrong reports, the model was then welcomed and went on to success.
