Dodge Monaco
The Dodge Monaco was built by the Chrysler Corporation from 1965 to 1978 and were once again produced from 1990 - 1992. This car went through many changes over its long history, including the class it was categorized in and the platform it was built upon, although these changes came late for the first generation.
The first generation of Dodge Monaco cars were built from 1965 up until 1977, and were classified as full-size cars. These cars were produced to meet the demand of a new market segment, the so-called personal luxury market. This model was built on a C-platform and there were a number of body styles and engines to choose from. The oil crisis of the 1970's however, forced Chrysler to make some major changes to the Dodge Monaco. Since gas consumption due to the fuel shortages became a major issue, the second generation of Dodge Monaco, built from 1977 - 1978, had the body then built on a B platform and this reduced the Monaco from a full-sized car down to a mid-sized one. There were also fewer body styles and engine types available. In 1978 the Dodge Monaco was discontinued, but it was brought back between 1990 and 1992, but this third generation did not do well and was quickly replaced.
