The Initial Dodge Challenger was introduced by Dodge division of Chrysler Corporation in the year 1970. This was a late entry for Chrysler in the pony car segment of the United States market.. The design was based on the similar Plymouth Barracuda's new E-body, but the wheelbase of Challenger, at 110 inches, was two inches longer and had significantly different outer sheet metal than Plymouth.
