Dodge Caravan
A technically sound minivan from the most modern assembly lines of DiamlerChrysler, located at Finton Missouri, Dodge Caravan was first introduced in market in the year 1984 along with sister model Chrysler Plymouth. Caravan is a 3-4 door minivan. Dodge Caravan was the first car in the minivan segment and created an entire new division in the market. It went on sale in the year 1984 as the 1985 model. The idea of minivan was the brain child of Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich since they were with Ford. However, Caravan beat Renault Espace to the market by just a few months to become the first minivan in the market.
The Caravan uses 2.2 to 4.0 L EGA V6 gasoline engine. It also features TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a five-speed manual transmission for easy and smooth handling. Caravan has a Chrysler S Platform which has been designed specially by Dodge. The same platform is used in various Dodge models and can be closely related to K Platform of Plymouth.
From the beginning the Caravan was the topper in sales and was listed among the 10 best in Car & Driver's magazine. To mark the 10th anniversary of the minivan in the market Chrysler introduced two color paints and special badges in the year 1994. In the year 2004, during the Chicago Car Show did a "Stand by your Van" campaign and winner was gifted with a brand new Caravan and was also given the first feel of the "Stow'n'Go' seating style.
