GMC Sierra pick up vehicles, in the new name, hit the markets during the end of 1998 or early 1999, when General Motors, the leading automaker in the world, decided to drop the name of C/K associated with its models of pickup trucks be it of GMC brand, or Chevrolet brand, and retain the Sierra name for its GMC brands and Silverado brands of Chevrolet.
Marketed across the entire North America, the GMC Sierra pick up vehicle, the first of its kind full-size pickup vehicle in its class of vehicles, is available in three different cab length models, a short-cab with 2 doors, an extended cab model with 3 doors or 4 doors, and finally front hinged crew cab with 4 doors. The first model under the new brand name, GMC Sierra Pick up, was introduced in the year 1999 with two types of engine specifications, the 4.3 liter Vortec V6 engine with 200 hp power requirement and 265 ft -lbf torque, and 4.8 liter Vortec V8 engine with a maximum of 270 hp power requirement and 285 ft lbf torque requirement. Subsequent variations and improvements include the 5.3 Liter Vortec V8 engine and 6.0 Liter Vortec Max engines. The special features of the upgraded V6 and V8 engines include new roller rocker arms, powdered metal sprocket and new roller timing chain, which will go a long way in improving the reliability, durability and quality of the engine in addition to keeping the engine quieter for a longer time.
